Amber Portwood Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

Amber had court today after quitting her Court Drug Rehab program and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The judge ruled that she would be awarded time served for the time she has been in Jail. I'm not sure if that will include the time she has been on house arrest and in the rehab program.

The Judge also refereed Amber to the Indiana Department of Corrections therapeutic community program - and incarceration based treatment program. So hopefully she will be able to kick her drug habit once and for all.

Amber's lawyer tried to get her some leniency on the sentencing but to no avail. Just one week away from the return of Teen Mom on MTV this certainly is a sad way to say goodbye to Amber.

  3. Wish her all the best and she overcomes all of her obstacles .. it is a sad way to say goodbye to amber. I will continue to pray for her and keep her and her family in my thoughts. Can't say prison will absolutely help her but I sure hope it does while she is in there.. </3

  4. lord have mercy on her while she is locked up...hope when she gets out she will choose the clean sober road instead of the wrong road she took

  5. If she thinks this is the only thing that will help her, then more power to her. It's sad that she couldn't overcome this whithout having to leave her daughter. But at hopefully she's trying to do what she thinks is best. Amber you're in my prayers. God bless you, and little Leah♥

  6. Very sad to see that she can't be a stable mother for her daughter. I would really love to hear the good news that her 5 years really helps her, but I have an odd feeling that this will never happen. Good Luck Amber! I hope to see a good story about you someday.

    2. Then don't watch it. I'm proud of her. You all can talk so much shit and say how this won't help, she'll only get x amount of time, and explain how that's gonna help her get clean and be with her baby girl again? Explain to me how you think that's helpful. Because it's not. If you don't like it, don't watch, don't read these blogs and keep your opinions to yourself.

    3. In the state of Indiana she will only do atleast 1/2 of her time. She got 5 years w/ 120 days suspended for time served. She'll be out in a year and a half and be on parole for the remaining 5 years. She knows what she's doing for HER & Leah. Anderson is a small town, and w/ all the grief she gets and the grief Gary gives her, I don't blame her. Gary isn't the best dad. You guys only know what the MEDIA shows. He's a heavy partier and his MOM always has Leah, not to mention the "girls" he befriends to watch her too. Also, let's add his mom is being left by yet ANOTHER man.

    1. It would have happened despite what did or did not happen with Gary. Amber has been abusing pills since she was 13 (which she, herself, admitted).

Gary is a douche, but she was headed in the wrong direction for years.

Whose to say what would have made things better or worse.

The reality is that she made choices that got her to where she is, and unless she can start to make better choices, this is the way her life will continue.

    2. I blame MTV you offered money to this teen moms at 16 what you think there going to do? I have not seen MTV helping at all but only filming more episodes give the help without being film shame on both MTV n amber. SHAME!

    1. You know what? I agree with you. She was given the help she needed and chose not to stick with it. I'm a mother of two and when things got real bad,i never even thought to the shit she did. Hopefully jail does her good.

    2. Unfortunately, going to jail is the only thing that can help certain people. I feel bad her daughter will miss out on her mother for the time she is away. But it is best for everyone.

    3. i dont agree with you at all. thats a true parent if u want to get better for your daughter and for yourself. its sad shes gonna miss her daughter growing up for 5 yrs. but in the end her daughter will have respect for her. watch. my ex best friend is in prison for herion and she chose it over her daughter cuz she went to rehab n than came out again for the 3rd time and did it round her daughter. not thats a bad example of a mom not amber.

    4. I think it is sad....for her daughter. It's also sad that Gary is the best parent the little one has. My heart just breaks for that baby!

  12. pretty crappy in my book.. now if she hadn't been on tv or would have been a different race she wouldn't have gotten any time at all.. sad they are just trying to make an example out of her.. i suggest making an example all the other crack heads who actually don't do anything with their lives and make it better for everyone.

    1. WTF? They are not tryiing to make an example out of her.
      1. She MADE/agreed to the plea bargain.
      2. She admitted that she was unable to stay clean, even while on the drug treatment program.
      3. She tried to manipulate the system and lied, and got caught.
      4. She asked for jail.
      5. The judge honored her contract, and sent her to jail for the agreed upon time.

They are not making an example out of her.

And she really didn't do anything with her life either.

  14. good she deserves this! how selfish of her to do what she did. If she had attended the program, she could have better herself. Now she's in jail and her daughter will visit her in jail. How sad

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. She did attend. If she wasn't attending she would have been in prison already. It wasn't working. She did this to get better.

      Delete
    2. Um, actually, she attended some of it, then lied and said she was on bedrest, which was not true. She also skipped a drug test earlier.

you are right, it wasn't working, and people are now trying to say that she purposely chose to go to jail to 'get better', but her family always portrays Amber as a victim, and she lies and manipulates constantly (often an addict has this behavior), so I don't believe that. I think she knew her drug test was going to come up positive, so she turned herself in to make herself look better (as in choice, rather than forced.).

  15. I just hope that Gary is kind enough to bring Leah to visit often. I had a friend that was in jail for just 3 months and it was hard for them to get back into a routine. 5 years is a long time for a 3 year old. Even for an 8 year old. More than half her life. Hopefully after this tho, Amber will be able to be consistent in the rest of Leah's life.

    ReplyDelete
  16. She is SO selfish. She didn't want to TRY to quit for her DAUGHTER so she gives up all around. She deserves it. What a joke.

    1. The rehab program was not working for her. She did this so that she could get better. #Selfless

    2. Jamie,
i love that you always want to believe the best, but I feel that you might be a bit naive on this one. Especially because she said she would "always be a bad girl" - that means that she does not see herself changing in the future.

I know you are one of Amber's most faithful supporters, and I think that is awesome. She needs people to have her back, and to keep positive.

But do some research on "the addictive personality" - Amber is a poster person for this behavior.

I don't think it was a selfless act to choose prison - I think it was a coniving act.

The program didn't work for her because she chose for it not too... What I mean is that even S2S would not accept her because of her attitude - they knew she was going to fail because she would make choices that would sideline her recovery. Which is exactly what happened. Amber was not ready to get clean.

The good news is, regardless of her motivation, she is now in a place that MIGHT (supposing that she doesn't find a source of drugs in prison) help her to get clean. On an ongoing basis.

I hope this works for her.

    3. Things keep getting twisted. She said that she has always been the bad girl. As in had that label. She views very little of herself.

Amber does have an addictive personality but I do believe that she wants to get better. The rehab that she was in was not helping. She was getting and doing drugs and still managing to get around the drug tests.

I think I'm on her side for a couple of reasons, one because I have been in contact with a lot of people that really know her. and two because I feel bad for her. It's hard to get better and build yourself up when the whole world hates you and is constantly on you.

      Delete
    4. So true that people will not change because of hate, but because they feel 'safe' in an environment of love and acceptance.

I do admire how positive you are. It is refreshing.

I hope beautiful things abound in your life.

  17. Are all of you who say an 'example' is being made of her or insinuating that Amber got a raw deal forgetting all the chances she has been given, and that ultimately the maximum penalty that she was sentanced to was AT HER OWN REQUEST? She only got what SHE asked for. Straight down the line, Amber's results have ALL been determined by HER OWN choices and decisions, including the 5 years she is now serving!

    ReplyDelete
  18. good im glad shes going for 5 years. She did this to her self. she had so many chances and she blew them all. Leah deserves whats best for her and that is her father. Gary has been the best father that he can be for the past 2 years.

  19. That good phyco girl that's where she needs to be.

  20. Well, seems she did this to herself....she chose drugs over her daughter....so I have NO sympathy for her

  21. Shows you how effed up the court system is. shes serving 5 yrs becuz of what? becuz of some drugs? but Casey Anthony can sure as hell walk away for murdering her own daughter. I love Amber and still route for her. Im sad this has happened but its for the best.xoxoxo Keep ya head ya babe.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The courts are not at fault...they did not force her to do drugs. She was given many chances are help but refused to accept the help. It only works if you put all your heart and soul into it. She REQUESTED this prison time. She CHOSE to go to prison instead of being a MOTHER! She CHOSE to give up and not try to get better for her daughter! We all make choices in life, and sadly Amber's CHOICE was NOT her daughter, but instead PRISON & DRUGS! It is sad for LEAH....not for Amber! Her mother is a pathetic excuse of a mother! She is no mother she is just a ignorant F@@ck up!

  23. No matter what anyone thinks Amber deserves doesn't matter. Its about Leah and in her case this is very very sad. Think of the little girl here not your hate for Amber.

    1. The problem is that many things are generational - both biologically and environmentally based, so Amber DOES matter and does affect the outcome for Leah. Mental illness has a genetic predisposition, and knowing someone 'close' that is in jail increases your odds of also going to jail.

So everything that Leah is being exposed to, directly or indirectly is forming her opinions and even options.

For example: Just knowing someone who has committed suicide increases the likelyhood of suicide.

Poor Leah. Her family is a mess. Gary is obese, and seems to be getting bigger and bigger (indicates pyschological issues and well as possible health issues), her grandma is getting dumped by yet ANOTHER man (too many comments to write here), and her mom is a drug addicted jail bird.

      I worry for Leah's future.

    2. From hollywoodlife.com

"Dr. Gardere warns that since Amber has drug problems, Leah may even have a genetic predisposition of having them herself, saying “We do know that drug and alcohol use has a genetic competent, so it puts her at risk.”"

  24. She is where she deserves to be, she was one crappy mother. I am sorry I to was a teen mother and NEVER EVER Did some of the physco things she has done, from beating up Gary in front of that little child, to having random men in and out of her life. I'm not claiming to be an angel, but no matter how hard life is, YOU LIFE CHANGES FOREVER ONCE YOU BECOME A MOTHER. My life wasn't easy either, and I manages to overcome struggles life has given us. God never gives someone more then they can handle. You chose to do the things you do, and she is now suffering the consequences for her actions. Little Leah is so much better off without that in her life. I only hope she changes her course in life and becomes something Leah can look up to. Sad thing is I have seen first hand what drugs can do to a person and their family, some change and most don't.....

Thats good she passed out the kid is on her own She knew she had time to clean up or go away there should be NO PITY for her what so ever.. Let's just hope after 5 yrs she comes out clean & stays clean.. what happens if she comes out & still uses that has been known to happen. Guess its all about her she wasn't worried about her kid & You can't blame someone else cuz she is a user she can clean up if she wanted to..

Not to mention Gary is an idiot with mental issues.

  29. Amber got the punishment she deserved. She was given chance after chance.. At the end of the day, it wasn't Gary or MTV that forced her to take drugs. Gary didn't ask her to punch, kick, and slap him!! Imagine if the cameras weren't around, how much worse this situation could have been.

  30. Gary tweeted this:
    Gary Shirley‏@ItsGaryTime

So when I was younger my step dad (ruthless asshole) not moms current man. Made me sit on Fire Ants so I literally had ant in my pants.

So how many men has his Mom gone through? What all will Leah be exposed to? I mean, will Grandma get together with another abusive man?

SCARY. Leah does not seem to have a bright future.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The fact that Gary calls his step dad a ruthless asshole means that the fire ant incident was not the only incident of abuse. This means that Gary's Mom failed to protect her children, and it also sets the tone for Gary to find someone to abuse him in later life (Dr Drew always talks about how patterns repeat themselves from early childhood).

What kind of people will Gary and his Mom expose Leah to?
