Leah Calvert (Messer) Offends Her Fans During Presidential Debate

During the most recent Presidential debate as usual people were on edge and arguing about politics. It all started with a simple tweet to Leah that someone random had made accusing her of being on government assistance. Leah replied with:
"Government assistance? They should get rid of it! Then maybe people will WORK for a living... idc"

Needless to say, people were offended. Considering a good portion of Leah's die hard fans are getting help from the government right now, her words hurt.

She claims now that her tweet was about people who abuse the system. Not people who need it because she herself has known poverty and even had to live in a homeless shelter at one point in her life.

Unfortunately she is contradicting what she said originally. That government assistance should be "gotten rid of." To me if this was a simple mistake and misunderstanding a follow up tweet of something like "I'm sorry, that last tweet came out wrong. I meant more that the system should be monitored better." or "I meant people who abuse the system not people who need it, I apologize." would have made sense and probably would have had fans forgiving her. Sadly that did not happen. Leah instead defended her statement. Retweeting fans that agreed with her and blocking the people who were angry with her.

Understandably later when Leah's mother wrote a note on her fan page about what Leah "really meant" fans didn't take it well. Since she had already offended everyone and then defended her statement that she later amended. So the post that "explained" why she said what she did was soon deleted.

To add fuel to the fire, Leah's new husband Jeremy took to his own twitter to express his feelings. Stating that "This is simple. Pass a damn drug test if you want welfare or ss I have to so I can work to support worthless people." ......... Again, not the best wording. I can perhaps understand the point he is trying to make, what I don't understand is why he continued to curse at people on twitter and also boast about his $19K a month income to random people he doesn't know.

This whole situation could have been minimized by a simple apology for how the tweet sounded. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is for sure, but when someone who makes over 250K a year says that government assistance should be taken away its going to turn some heads. Especially when a lot of those thousands of fans that saw the tweet are young parents themselves who don't have a choice but to have government help.

I've said this before but my advice to all the cast members is to be careful what you put out there online. You are aware of the number of followers you have. So think before you tweet and remember that those fans are why you get your MTV paychecks!

  1. agree with the statements. plenty of choices other than government assitance. there is nothing that provides a right to government asistance/social programs. consitutiuon/bill of rights did not intend for society to be supported by government.

  4. I totaly agree with Leah and her husband, They should get rid of the social assistance or keep it there for only the ones that are clean (Drug test) or really in need on a temporary basis. Too many people are waisting our money to sit on their couch and wath us work our ass out there...

    1. There is a five-year cap on welfare. Drug testing... Who's going to pay for it? Don't punish kids for their parents' mistakes.

  5. The reason.they don't have drug tests is because it would cost more money and the kids of druggie wouldn't eat. Leah meant exactly what she said. "get rid of it" meaning every person on it shouldn't have it. As long as a persons main goal is to get to a place where they dont need it theres nothing wrong with people on them. If leah wasn't lucky enough to be chosen for the show shed be on food stamps wic daycare payments medicaid.

  6. I guess that's all pretty easy to say for someone who literally gets paid thousands and thousands of dollars for the shitty decisions she's made and mooches off her hard-working husbands' benefits.

Poor Jeremy. "I have to work so I can support worthless people." I know he meant system abusers, but I couldn't help laughing at that statement. Ya know, because the wife he is working to support is the CLASSIEST, most intelligent girl in the trailer park. I'm sure she'd be JUST as successful without those paychecks from MTV (sarcasm)

These girls seriously need to stop Tweeting everything they think.

    1. You're totally right. And if they insist on tweeting everything they think, they need to stop whining when people get pissed off. That's what makes me craziest about this filthy white trash- She thinks she's allowed to have her backwards redneck opinions, but if anyone dares to challenge her opinion with their own they're being "mean" and need to be blocked. The ONLY thing this girl is right about is that people shouldn't be talking crap about her baby. That stuff makes me crazy. Its not the babies' fault their mother is such trash.

  8. Interesting that she'd say that..did she forget how her twins were born on welfare medical insurance (and on it for a bit after they were born, before Corey got them on his insurance)?

  9. Being on government assistance does not make you worthless, it is there for people like me who can't find a job in this economy that pays enough to keep a roof over your head and pay all you bills as well as feed your child. Not everyone can do all that and still pay for child care to work full time. Some of us in this world don't have people to run to so you can get free child care. Some people have to work a lot harder than others in this life and not have everything handed to them. And anyone who does not agree with that can kiss my ass. I do what I need to do to make sure my daughter is taken care of. I pay my taxes just like everyone else and I work my ass off at my job for minimum wage. You play the hand you are dealt with in life and make the best you possibly can out of it. Now you bitches that are on government assistance that run around with designer cloths, and hand bags, the newest I phone and have your hair and nails redone every week, and or can afford to drink and party and do drugs make me sick. But there is NOTHING AT ALL WRONG WITH BEING A GOOD HARD WORKING WOMAN AND NEEDING A LITTLE BIT OF HELP WHEN NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO LIFE KEEPS CRAPPING ON YOU. NEVER JUDGE SOMEONE UNTIL YOU HAVE LIVED THEIR LIFE. ALL YOU PETTY LITTLE BITCHES THAT FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO STICK THEIR NOSE WHERE IT DOES NOT BELONG BECAUSE THEY ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF ATTENTION NEED TO GET A LIFE. The only people that talk that way are the ones who go out and marry for money or have never had to work a real honest days work in there life. To me your the pathetic one not the ones in life that need a little help because they choose to step up and be a real woman an do what they gotta do. Freakin morons. And this is the first time I have ever taken the time to comment on anything like this because this is the first time the ignorance of people has shown through to its finest.

  10. there are alot of people who abuse the system i believe they need to check carefully and make sure these people arnt out running the streets and are actually trying their hardest to do whats right but no idt it should be taken away theres alot of people who actually need it who work their asses off for min wage while going to schoo full time and taking care of their child alone. comming from a girl whos never been alone id expect a statement like this.

    1. The problem is that even when someone abuses the system its the children who are punished when the welfare is taken away. And taking the children from teh parents is not usually a better option, foster care is almost always worse than having lazy drug addicts for parents.

    2. Seriously? You honestly believe that the foster care system is worse for children than living with deadbeat drug addicted parents? Have you personally ever lived with a drug addicted or alcohol abusing parent? My guess is no.

Drug testing for welfare is a good thing. It will mean that more children are removed from drug addict parents. Even if the foster care system is imperfect, it is 9 times out of 10 better for children to be in a safe, secure environment rather than living with their parents who are abusing drugs. Drug abusers are dangerous and provide an extremely unstable environment for children. No child should be subjected to that life.

  11. How come no one has mentioned the fact that her new husband looks EXACTLY like her old husband? I guess its because everyone in west virginia is inbred.

  12. I love how everyone bashes Leah for living in a trailer and call her all sorts of names yet no one says shit about cate and ty doing the same thing. Living in a trailer does not make a person trashy by any means. It affordable houseing and almost always a safe area to live. Unless you'd rather people get givernment help paying rent or move their kids into some trashy ass hood area. You guys are dicks.
