The Truth About Jenelle & Her "Plagiarizing" Employee

For those who don't know the whole story, let me start at the beginning . Jenelle had a friend named Sarah, who would run her facebook fan page. She was a nice girl and always spoke very well of Jenelle. I sat down with Sarah to get her side of this whole silly story today and here it goes.

Jenelle has an online job posting news about herself and other teen moms on the website Sulia.com.
I'm not entirely sure why but Jenelle's schedule didn't allow her to post as much as she needed to on the site so she secretly hired Sarah to do all of her work for her. In return she told Sarah that she would pay her for her time and effort.

Sarah

Things started out well enough, Sarah posted all during the week (more than what was required as well), then Jenelle would get paid by Sulia. When the time came for Jenelle to pay Sarah (the one doing all the work....) she for one reason or another couldn't do it. She promised Sarah $300 per week and then changed her mind and offered her $200 a week.

Jenelle kept promising payment so Sarah being her friend figured she would eventually get paid and continued working for her. After over a month of receiving no pay, and Jenelle avoiding her phone calls Sarah started to get careless with her posts. She started to do a lot of copying and pasting of articles. Sarah not being a professional writer didn't realize how seriously the other writers on the site would take this.

Jenelle ended up getting into a bit of trouble for posts Sarah did in her last week of posting. (Some of the said "plagiarized" posts were actually posted by Jenelle...) She immediately told everyone that it was someone else posting and that she "fired" Sarah. Now she is using the excuse of plagiarism as her reason for not paying her. Which is not the truth at all. Jenelle had already owed Sarah quite a bit of money before any of that happened. When you don't pay an employee... chances are they aren't going to take their job seriously and will be really really unhappy about it...

By my calculations (even if you deduct the last week or so that Sarah posted...) Jenelle owes Sarah around $800. Which she has no intention of paying at all. So now Jenelle has lost yet another friend in another huge public falling out.

  1. sarah should take JE and all her text messages to court to get her money

  2. The way Junkelle talks she sounds like she's owing money to a drug dealer which I'm sure is where the money went!

  3. Assuming that there was no contract involved, there's nothing she can do about it. Why would anyone trust Jenelle, anyway?

    1. This is actually false. A verbal agreement is legally binding and any court would rule in Sarah's favor, especially with the messages she had to prove that they never paid get.

  4. The text messages are proof. Take them to Judge Judy and get your money!

  5. Kind of ignorant for Sarah to trust her.... I would refuse to work after two weeks, and that's being nice about it. More than a month is pretty naive. That doesn't make it okay for Jenelle to lie and take advantage of this girl though. She's so strange.

  6. Sarah is an idiot for starters, she plagiarized them to begin with which is why jenelle said she wasnt paying her. lol I wouldnt pay someone for almost making me lose my job either. dumb broad.

    1. Not true at all. Sarah didn't start copying articles until she realized Jenelle wasn't going to pay her.

  7. You missed the part where there was non plagiarized work done and no pay was received. I always kinda felt bad for Sarah, youth and overall naivete can be blinding. Lesson learned is all she should chalk it up to. As an FYI, (in case she doesn't already know), even if she did take JE to court and won, that doesn't guarantee she will ever get her money.

  8. how come someone ever trust jenelle?

  9. I do NOT believe Sarah on this.
    First:
Sarah told everyone that she did not work for Jenelle at all for pay, that she was her Facebook admin ONLY.
She also denied any plagairism and told everyone that someone else who worked for Jenelle had been fired for posting the stolen work. Now she is admitting to both and wants to be paid?!

    Second:
Look CLOSELY at the text messages. It looks like the agreement to pay her was made in advance of any work being done or as part of an ongoing discussion about the terms of the work because Jenelle wrote "but you must write INTERESTING" (and then it gets cut off to make Sarah look good). Sarah's claim that she didn't know it is wrong to steal someone else's work and get paid for either proves that she's without conscience or stupid. Or she did it to get revenge on Jenelle for some reason (maybe Jenelle did owe her money for previous work). Sarah forfeited any right she had to any money she might have legitimately earned through her lies and incriminating behavior. It seems like everyone around Jenelle is right at her level. I had hoped for more from that Sarah girl. Oh well.

    1. Sarah lied about working for Jenelle because it was a secret. Jenelle would of gotten in trouble for having someone else do her work. Which I'm pretty sure she did in the end. She kept the secret for Jenelle's sake.

You need to remember that Sarah is young and not a professional writer. She is still a teenager and thought she had a chance to make money from home. Jenelle screwed her over.

    2. That doesn't make ANY SENSE because Janelle has already publicly admitted to "hiring someone" and having to fire them for plagairism. So Sarah wasn't protecting anyone but herself. I'm no fan of Janelle, but at least she didn't out Sarah for stealing other people's work (which Janelle is prone to doing in times of distress, especially since it was true). Sarah wasn't concerned about Janelle getting in trouble. She WANTED Janelle to get into trouble and said so.

Please, don't say we "need to remember" anything. It's all public. Maybe you need to remember that all this has been hashed out in public and we are not stupid.

    3. Jenelle didn't admit anything until she got in trouble. Then she made sure everyone knew it wasn't her posting.

PS: I don't know why you are getting all nasty about this. Do you even know any of them? lol

    4. Since when did being young excuse stupidity?

      Delete
    5. Yes because human beings walk out of the vagina knowing everything... what is your excuse for that idiotic statement?

    6. uh sarah is ENGAGED. while she may technically be a teenager at 18, that doesn't excuse her being naive. she's only a couple years younger than jenelle.

      Delete
    7. HAHA! Because getting ENGAGED = instant maturity. Have you learned nothing from all of these seasons?

    8. We learn about plagiarism in high school....like freshman year. No excuse for "not knowing" that you cannot copy another persons work

      Delete
    9. You live, you learn. How hard is this to understand? None of it changes the fact that Jenelle is a lying crack head who ripped her off. She got paid to do absolutely nothing. As usual.

    10. So sarah walked out of the womb yesterday? It doesn't matter how old a person is. It doesn't excuse being stupid. At 18 years old she should know better. This is what she gets.

      Delete
    11. So because Sarah was a good friend to Jenelle and trusted her she deserves to be ripped off? It's OK for Jenelle to use people as long as they are dumb enough to fall for it? What a great person you seem to be....

      Delete
    12. I don't she deserves it but she should have seen it coming. Don't blindly trust. Plus she decided to start doing bull shit work instead of quiting. She shouldn't be paid for that.

    13. Look, most teenagers don't understand copyright. In fact, most of the time when my artwork gets ripped off, I find it posted online by some teenager who legitimately thinks that because they found it on google, that means they can use it because to them, it's public domain. Spoiler alert: it's not. I think because of the ease of which one can find information online, it creates assumptions of fair use and lax copyright laws. I think Sarah fell prey to this as much as she fell prey to Jenelle's patented ass hattery.

      Delete
    14. maybe they should google copyright laws instead of your art work. It's really not that hard. Plain and simple Sarah acted like an idiot. She sited her sources before all this drama so why did she stop all of a sudden?? Plus she worked for like a month without gtting paid. Thats just dumb. It's still not right that jenelle didn't pay her for the good work that she did but she stooped to her level which in my opinion negates Jenelles wrong doing. 2 wrongs don't make a right, they make it even. Jenelle screwed Sarah. Sarah screwed Jenelle back. and try putting a watermark on your work when you put it online. it's yours and you deserve the credit for it.

    15. I would maybe agree with that if Jenelle hadn't made a ton of money for doing nothing. What did Sarah get out of it? Nothing. That's not even. Jenelle still has her job and still sat back and collected checks. Sarah should get paid for the good work that she did. Not the bad. Whether or not she is "stupid" is your opinion. It's irrelevant.

We can assume that Jenelle made over 300 a week with Sulia based on how much she was originally going to give her. Lets just say $350 a week (I'm sure she made a lot more than that but just for arguments sake) that's $1,400 + for doing absolutely nothing. Instead of getting tattoos and buying drugs and designer crap she should have paid Sarah for all the help she was giving her.

1.) Most teenagers lack the forethought to google copyright laws. Their motivation is for instant gratification, why would they read up on law when a stor/ image could be posted to their own page right now? Right click/save!

2.) I do watermark my work, though for professionals it is considered incredibly tacky to have an enormous watermark over your pieces because it distracts from the work, so I have one that is discreet. Sometimes it is purposefully cropped by a teenage thief, sometimes it is erased via the clone tool, sometimes it gets drawn over with the thief's own larger watermark, sometimes it is left in out of sheer laziness. I am fortunate enough where my work is well-known enough that someone can pick up that it's been stolen and I get alerted and teens get a talking to.

Is it still wrong? Yup. Is it a reasonable expectation that a teenager doesn't have a solid grasp on copyright laws and is more motivated to do something for instant gratification? YUP! I agree that Sarah shouldn't be reimbursed for any plagiarized work but she is still owed for the work she did on her own. Jenelle wanted to buy smack instead of pay the people she hired for shady business practices. Sarah is still owed a sum.

    17. My point is that they should not lack the forethought. Do what the heck you're supposed to do. Being a teenager is no excuse for doing something stupid. Everyone wants to give young people a free pass the eff up. Yes, everyone makes mistakes. Yes, young people make more of them because they are young and have a lot of learning to do. No, they should not be excluded from blame or consequence just because they are young.

If it were me I would have a big fat watermark over my work so no one could steal it and if they want to see it without it they can pay for it or come see it or w/e. but then again I am far from an artist, maybe thats why lol. Screw those douches.

  10. Honestly if the whole "plagiarizing" thing was a big deal, why didn't that writer sue her? OH that's right, because all she did was copy and paste a couple of shitty articles from gather.com

I saw them, they weren't even real news. Shit no one cares about. Jenelle didn't lose her job and nothing happened. Who cares.
